In his recent paper presented at the 2017 Bible Translation conference, Kyle Davis encourages using locally trained indigenous church leaders instead of primarily depending on expatriate specialists throughout the duration of the translation process.
So, within the target language of a new translation project, how can a team go about finding or preparing these leaders? Let’s hold that question for just a moment.
Take a look at the relationship square below. This square is a simplified representation of ABT’s relationship to sending churches and the Bible translation and church planting process.
The relationship square illustrates three main points:
PART 3 of 3
What is the real value of Bible translation? Scripture in the mother tongue is foundational to a maturing church. Though discipleship and church planting take priority, Bible translation is an essential ingredient. A church with no Bible is in danger of crumbling; it lacks a crucial part of its foundation.
PART 2 of 3
THE BT/CHURCH-PLANTING TEAM
Bible translators in training with ABT spend a lot of time developing language skills, learning the biblical languages, and studying things like linguistics. However, if Bible translation is not merely an academic project, but a part of the church planting process, what additional skills do Bible translators and their teammates need?
